We're Finally Trying the Cloth Diapers

It only took 7 weeks, but when you have your second child and the first is a strong-willed almost-3-year-old, you take things one at a time. "Like an onion," my friend said.  I'd thought Olivia would be so small she'd need to be in newborn diapers for a while and we wouldn't get into the one-sized cloth ones for a few months.  Well, she's now over 11 lbs, so she barely fits into the smallest diaper covers!  It's not the easiest thing to run a bag of dirty cloth diapers over to the mother-in-law apartment to use the washer and dryer, but it's a blessing to have a washer and dryer at all!  We're still in disposables overnight, as that's the only way she'll sleep through.  THAT'S RIGHT, I said "sleep through"...as in, the night!  Last night I was graced with 8 full hours of glorious, slobber-dripping sleep, and it was everything I thought it could be.  Thank you, God.

  1. Which brand are you using? Do you like them so far? We have FuzziBunz and some BumGenius and other misc. ones from friends. I didn't get them in time to use them for the first year with my oldest, just the next 2 years- but with the coming baby I'm hoping it will work with newborn up.

  2. We've bought Flip, Thirsties, Fuzzibunz, BumGenius, Kawaii, Cuddle Bug, Bummis... and we like the outer liner/filler style best. It's less laundry you do and way less expensive than the all-in-ones or pocket diapers. If you like the pocket style, Kawaiis are the best because they're a fraction of the price of the rest. But if you go the outer liner/filler route, all you need (for washing laundry every 2-3 days) is one or two single-size outer diaper for newborns, several baby blankets or large squares of flannel fabric folded to fit inside, then 4-6 Flip one-size-fits-all outer diapers and about 20-35 fillers (about $2 each) and that fits the baby through 36 months. Very economical, and easy to pass on to a friend to use (they get their own fillers). But once the all-in-ones or pocket diapers are badly stained, you have to replace the whole diaper to get it looking new again. Congratulations on your new baby coming soon! :)
